Gary Haag

Gary Haag received his undergraduate degree from Pittsburgh State University in Kansas, and his Masters from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Gary arrived in Brookfield in 1968 as an elementary counselor and moved into the principal's position in 1977 where he remained until his retirement in 1999.

Through his years in education, he implemented the kindergarten round-up and served on the state committee that developed the first tests for students entering kindergarten. He has served as president of the Brookfield Day Care facility and served on the YMCA board. He has coached varsity and middle school football and established the Brookfield wrestling program in 1969; he had his first state champion (Bill Shouse) in 1971.

He established the middle school and youth wrestling clubs in Brookfield and has coached tennis, softball, and volunteers countless hours helping discus and shot put throwers for BHS – he has coached 12 state champions in shot put and discus with one discus thrower holding the state record for 13 years.

Gary was one of the first members of the local soccer board and has been active in Kaleidoscope, the local dinner theater. Mr. Haag has spent his life dedicated to the development of and in service to the students and the parents of Brookfield, the school district and staff members, and the Brookfield community.

He is husband to Timmi, also a retired BHS faculty member, and father to two grown children.
