Floyd Cleveland

Floyd Cleveland was born April 27, 1927, to George Elmer and Sylvia Gail (Vroom) Cleveland in a farmhouse near Brookfield. Floyd attended school for his first eight grades in a one-room school house and was a student at Brookfield High School until he left during his senior year to join the United States Navy during World War II. His mother received his diploma for him at graduation with the BHS Class of 1945.

He married Pat Simpson in 1953 and they are the parents of three sons, Scott, Doug, and Mark, whom all graduated from BHS. After the untimely death of their son Scott, he and Pat established the Scott Cleveland Memorial Scholarship for graduating seniors, of which forty graduates have benefited to date.

Floyd is a row crop, cattle farmer and owner of Cleveland Real Estate in Brookfield. He has been a great contributor to Brookfield and the Brookfield School System, having served two terms on the School Board, and School Board President for four years. He is an active member of the Bulldog Booster Club and was a founding member of the bulldog steak feed. He is known to all elementary students as the “Pumpkin Man” because of his annual pumpkin patch giveaway each year.

Mr. Cleveland is a member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, has served two terms on the Brookfield Township Board, a member of the Brookfield Masonic Lodge for over 50 years having served as Worshipful Master for two years. He has been a member of the Elk’s Lodge for over 50 years, a member of the Marceline Eagles Lodge, and a member of the American Legion. He is also a charter member of the General John J. Pershing Memorial Association and has served twelve years on the Pershing Memorial Hospital Board. He is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and is an organizer of the Farmers Picnic each year.
