Jane L. (Turner) Chick was born May 31, 1929, in Fayette, daughter of Marvin and Louise Turner. She married James W. Chick on June 24, 1951, and they had three children, Diane, Ellen, and Loran. She passed away following a brief illness on April 27, 2011, at the age of 81.

Jane received an Associate of Arts Degree from Colorado Women's College, Denver, CO. and a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Central Methodist University, Fayette.

Not many people in Brookfield have touched more souls than Jane Chick. She spend 34 years teaching French and vocal music in the Brookfield R-3 School District. She was Brookfield High School Student Council sponsor for over 20 years and was a substitute teacher after her retirement. She played the piano and organ for many funerals, weddings, various churches, and accompanied many vocal groups throughout the community. She was honored as Outstanding Educator Retiree from Region III of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. Her passion for education and people came shining through as she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was pianist and choir director, and also took her turn directing the Linn County Community Chorus. She was a member of Linn County Retired Teachers Association, Missouri Retired Teachers Association and a 50-year member of Chapter AG of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was such an honored and respected teacher that a scholarship continues to be given in her name.

She was also a judge for the BHS Hall of Fame upon its establishment. She was a closet sports fan and never missed listening or watching the Bulldogs and Mizzou Tigers. She was a great influence in the Brookfield schools and community.
